About the “Making Magical Habitats” Project
Harwes Farm Community Interest Company and Broadfield Specialist School have received £25,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an exciting Young Roots project: “Making Magical Habitats” to take place at Harwes Farm in Colne, Pendle Lancashire. Jointly led by Gill Taylor from Harwes Farm CIC and the Young Lead Team from Broadfield Specialist School, this 12 month project Oct 2015/16 will see the planting of hundreds of metres of traditional countryside hedgerows by more than 200 local school children and community volunteers.
This project will enable local people, young and old to take part together in re establishing the hedgerow as part of the natural landscape to be enjoyed by everyone including the many walkers that visit footpaths around the farm. School children and community volunteers will have opportunity to learn new skills and traditional skills by getting hands on experience in tree planting under the expert guidance of Forestry Consultant Mr Dave Brackley and supported by Community Champions from The
