A brief history of Harwes Farm CIC

Harwes Farm CIC is a community-focused initiative deeply rooted in a love for nature, education, and well-being. Our journey began when Gill and Andy purchased the farm in 2010. They instantly recognized its unique charm and potential to serve a greater purpose beyond their personal enjoyment. With a strong background in youth work—Gill volunteering for over 20 years and holding positions with local churches and the county council, and Andy's involvement with The Duke of Edinburgh's Award both locally in Lancashire and nationally, as well as various other voluntary organizations—they were well-equipped to transform their vision into reality.

In 2014, Harwes Farm CIC was officially established with the aim of creating a space that fosters community, learning, and personal growth. The early days were challenging, but leveraging their existing connections with local groups, Gill and Andy began to build momentum. Through Gill's relentless dedication and determination, and with the assistance of a skilled fund writer, they started to secure vital funding. This financial support was crucial in allowing the CIC to expand its reach and impact.

One of our significant milestones was receiving funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which has enabled us to make substantial improvements to our site. We've enhanced access across our property and into our enchanting woodland area, and we've commissioned a purpose-built cabin designed to accommodate the diverse groups and individuals who participate in our programs.

What started as a husband-and-wife team has blossomed into a dynamic organization. We now engage numerous professionals on a paid basis, including Forest School practitioners, administrative support staff, and coordinators for our allotment and volunteer activities. This growth reflects our commitment to providing high-quality experiences and support for our community.

The work of Harwes Farm CIC continues to go from strength to strength. We are constantly exploring new and innovative ways to engage with our local community and ensure a sustainable future for everyone involved. Our programs range from educational workshops and forest school activities to wellness retreats and conservation projects, all designed to promote a deeper connection with nature and each other.

Gill and Andy's vision of a community-centric farm has truly come to life, driven by their passion for youth development and environmental stewardship. Harwes Farm CIC is more than just a farm; it's a sanctuary where people can learn, grow, and find solace in nature. Our story is one of growth, community, and unwavering commitment to making a positive impact.

We invite you to join us at Harwes Farm CIC and become part of our ongoing journey.
